Xavier was on the border of getting a seed. I wouldn't say they got screwed though. RPI was 18th the teams who were seeded all had RPIs higher than that. Only win over a tournament team was Georgetown in the BET (yes ties to Creighton and Providence, but ties aren't wins).

If they were on the border of getting a seed, they shouldn't have to face the 5th best team in the country in Indiana with a win.

Well that's all because the Pod system used in the Soccer playoffs. Outside of the seeded teams they don't consider the teams strength. They're grouped by Geography not seeded the way the basketball tournament is. So teams just have to play teams near each other. This cuts down on travel expenses since the tournament loses money for everyone involved. It's stupid and annoying.
The higher RPI team gets the home game as long as they put in a bid to host, but the matchups are dictated by geography not talent level. UC Irvine which has a slightly better case than Xavier for a seed (better RPI and wins) has to play Stanford who got shafted as a 6 seed and should've gotten a top 4 seed.
