Can some Nova fans add some perspective on these portals?

In my opinion, the portal and this basically free agency is going to kill Jay's style of team building. The trust required between teammates who had played together 2, 3, 4 years, starting as redshirts, progressing to subs and then starters is how that offense worked. You can't get that with a team of mercenaries. Hell, that's usually how the big upsets usually happened in March Madness; you'd get a mid major full of Seniors fired up playing a team of NBA prospects who didn't really give a shit.

Unless you can get a way to convince recruits to stay for a period of time, I'm not sure if we can recreate the success of 2016 (and earlier, really 2009) thru 2020. That's why Jay retired, he saw what was going to happen and said "I don't want to deal with this", took his ball and went home.

Totally agree. I think the programs like Nova, Virginia, I suspect eventually Houston with Sampson- are all going to be really hurt by things.

On the bright side, I never thought I'd see 3 Nova players pretty much running an NBA playoff team. What an incredible 92 points performance by the trio tonight at the Garden with great shooting, rebounding, and defending! If only the Knicks actually had a bench...

It's astounding seeing the decline of Villanova basketball. If the season started tomorrow, based on the current rosters, Nova might well finish dead last. I hope after the upcoming disaster they hire a good coach with a proven track record, and get the donors to step up in a big way, so they can be competitive with other top programs again. A strong Villanova is definitely in the best interest of the Big East.

Longino is the only returning player???? You have a portal defector? Just a handful of underwhelming transfers? How many scholarship players are officially rostered? Any incoming freshman?

As an outsider looks like the money stopped pouring in after spending 3 million last year for an NIT bid. Neptune current roster looks like it will compete with Depaul for last place. Sad to see, Neptune is cooked.

A couple of incoming freshmen are in the Rivals Top150 in Moseley and Hodge. Better than nothing but a couple of players from the HS ranks even if highly rated doesn’t say “successful offseason” to me. If anything, this offseason for the Cats has been a total disaster

I think Nova makes the change next spring. I thought Neptune was a terrible hire from the beginning, but I don't think Nova's wrong in not making the change without a slam dunk candidate in place. After this season, with only 1 year left in his contract you obviously have to either extend him or let him go.
